Who was the first black starting NFL quarterback? Willie Thrower was the first African American to start in the quarterback position when he played for the Chicago Bears (my favorite team by the way) in 1953. Thrower was drafted into the NFL via Michigan State after he, as starting quarterback, lead the university to a national championship in the previous year.
It only takes one person to break through, to prove that a goal can be accomplished and then others are sure to follow. Man could not fly until the Wright Brothers proved that he could, the 4 minute mile could not be broken until Roger Bannister ran a 3minute and 59.4 second mile, and man could not reach the moon until Neil Armstrong. So much of your breakthrough depends on your belief in your ability. Hold fast to the belief that you can succeed where people whom you know and only know of have failed and you will the success you seek. Go ahead and be “the first” in your passion.
