Realistically a year ago I had no idea what Twitter was. In fact a year ago I didn’t know much of anything regarding Social Media. However, through a great friend, Calvin Hill and an amazing Internet Marketer I was able to quit my job and now work from home…blogging. One of the social media sites that lost me in the beginning was Twitter. Sure I played around with it but really I had no idea how in the world to make Twitter or my tweets work for me.
Now, every month I receive hundreds of visits from my twitter followers because of my tweets. Twitter is pretty much like the status updates for Facebook. The great thing about twitter is that you can reach out to massive amounts of people with just one tweet and you can automate your tweets so that you do not have to spend all of your time tweeting. However, just because your followers see your tweets doesn’t mean that they are going to click on your website.
Add Value
When you are micro blogging on Twitter add value. Don’t tweet messages that say, “Check this out,” or “A great deal.” Those messages are too salesmanish (is that a word?) and no one likes to be sold. However, when you write a blog post title it something interesting and then just put the title and the url. If the title captures their attention then they will click, if not then they won’t. Simple.
Re-Tweeting the Same Information
Some experts claim that you should not tweet the same article more than once, however I have seen data that proves the contrary. Realistically, if you have a 1,000 followers then if I tweet a offer, blog post or message and you check your Twitter account 5 minutes later then you will not see it. Therefore, if you have a really good post or offer then tweet it once every like six hours for the day. But, don’t use this strategy with every post or your followers will see you as a spammer and will stop following you.
Twitter is a form of social media therefore, you have to be social. Interact with the masses. Respond to the messages of others. Retweet interesting stories they post and comment on their comments. And check your direct messages every so often as people might be trying to reach out to you.
Don’t Follow Everyone
Lastly, do not follow everyone. Follow people within the demographic that you are trying to reach. I have 2 Twitter accounts. One is for the Pageant Planet and the other is for Steven Roddy (that is uh me). With Steven Roddy I made the mistake of just following random people just to get followers however, with the Pageant Planet I only pursued people who are in the modeling, pageant, and fashion world. The result? With half the amount of followers I have twice the response.
But, I do suggest with Twitter that you automatically follow everyone who follows you. More and more people are not following individuals that do not follow them back. Therefore, go to Tweetlater.com and set up an account. With Tweetlater you can automatically follow anyone that follows you.
Happy Tweeting
