Creativity sticks out. Once you find a creative ad, design, or sign, then you need to have consistency. Remember, marketing takes both time and money.

Here are 4 keys to Billboard Advertising:

  1. Outdoor billboards needs to be in a high traffic area where your demographic can see the sign. If you are unsure how to find your demographic or what stats to look for when narrowing down your customer base visit your myspace page. Then go to advanced settings under the category of find friends. Here you will see race, wages, and various other demographic type criteria. Use this as your idea wheel.
  2. Your ads need to be creative and eye catching. Think to yourself, “Why should a driver look away from traffic to read my billboard?”
  3. Your mobile billboard needs to have just the right amount of information to get your point across. Remember, they are driving and they need to be watching the road, therefore you will only have their attention for a couple of seconds.
  4. Track your ads. When setting up a marketing campaign find a way to track your responses. Something like, mention this billboard and receive 10% off your next purchase. This way you will know where to continue investing your money.

Bonus: Before you go forking out the cash to pay for out of home advertising keep in mind that the underworld of bartering that is alive and well. Marketing companies are never sold completely out of billboards or mobile advertising. With this in mind think, what service or product can your business give the advertising company to reduce your cost or to get some outdoor media for free?
