In the Bible Stephen was stoned in the book of Acts. He was basically a cafeteria boy, responsible for the distribution of food to the believers, however the Bible in the 6th chapter of the Book of Acts describes Stephen as a man full of faith and power who did “great wonders and miraculous signs among the people.” Because of those signs certain Jewish unbelievers rose up against him but they could not stand, “against his wisdom or by the Spirit which he spoke.”
Eventually, the Jews persuaded false witnesses to testify against him to bring him in front of the Sanhedrin. After they brought before him false charges, he went through the history of the Jewish faith and proved again and again that God did not dwell in buildings made with the hands of men rather the earth was his footstool and then proceeded to say this, “You stiff-necked people, with uncircumcised hearts and ears! You are just like your fathers: You always resist the Holy Spirit!” Yeah, that is quite the confidence coming from a restaurant manager. After that the Sanhedrin punished him to death by stoning.
This is the only place in the Bible, after the death of Christ that says Jesus was standing by the throne of God. I really enjoy this story because it shows what an ordinary man or woman can do if he or she loves God and has a relationship with Him through His son Jesus. What more could you do for God? I am not talking about praying 24/7 or working yourself to an early grave, rather what dreams has God placed in your heart that you have been afraid to trust Him with? What phone call have you not made for fear of rejection? What business have you not started because of lack of knowledge, self-esteem or fear? The same way that God was with Stephen He will be with you. God believes in you. Do you?
