My Journey to Debt Freedom

debt freedom My Journey to Debt Freedom

Goal accomplished! As many of you have read I made a goal on January 21, 2009 that I would pay off $2,000 in credit card debt by May 21, 2009. As a brief recap when I went out to Las Vegas for the Miss America pageant I was able to come up with an additional $500, take a week off from working and still had plenty of money to spare for my everyday living expenses. So I thought to myself, if I could come up with an additional $500 to go on vacation why couldn’t I come up with $500 to pay off my credit card bills?

The journey was not exactly as I had planned but then again when does life ever turn out the way we plan? For starters when I wrote the article I had in my mind that I owed $2,000 when in actuality I owed $2,500. Translation, before I could even start working towards my goal of paying off my debt I was 30 days behind. Each month I was able to save $500 by the 23rd and then at the end of March while in church I felt like God told me that if I forgave the money that this particular individual owed me then he would forgive my credit card debt.

Unsure if what I heard was actually from God but still feeling the desire to obey I called the man and forgave the debt he owed to me. Within 2 weeks God had opened the door for the additional $1,500 that I needed to pay off my credit card debt, 1 month earlier than my goal, and then let me go to Arizona to celebrate for a 2 week vacation! You can experience great rewards when you are willing to give obediently with the Lord’s guiding. I encourage you to read my journey, and thought process while I was paying off my debt to help you in your debt-free journey. Click HERE to read about my journey.

As I am feeling the momentum of a goal achieve, now is the time to set another goal. Following the same method of saving, giving, and a side venture that I am starting I will pay off my car note in 24 months and then be completely debt-free. Once my freedom is reached, I will only purchase liabilities with cash…and I will move forward in financial freedom for the rest of my life. My hope is that you will join me…will you?
