Knowing how to market your business online is critical for the success of your company. If you do not have an online marketing strategy for your business you are in trouble. If you try to market your business online by selling through the vechicles of social media and your blog then you are making a huge mistake. How many of you like when solicitors call your house while you are eating dinner? Do you enjoy when you open up your door and their is a Morman trying to sell you his religion? Or how do you feel when you find flyers on your car promoting the latest club hotspot?
You hate that kind of marketing, yet do you market your business online in the same fashion? If you do not like people spamming your car, house or phone then what makes you think that individuals on Twitter will enjoy you spamming their message board…oh because it’s you? News flash they hate it! So stop trying to market your business online by spamming or what you would call selling.
How to Market Your Business Online
If you want to sell your product online…don’t. People hate to be sold but they love to buy. Give value. Always give value. When you are blogging…give value. When you are tweeting…give value. When you are stumbling…give value. Make your online presence count.
Now, just because I said do not sell your product online doesn’t mean that you should not have a product to sell. You need products that people can purchase if you desire to earn a profit. But, don’t sell. If you are a pastor…create content that helps people deal with depression, drugs, broken hearts, relationships etc. If you are a Vacuum salesman (do they even exist anymore?) then give product reviews on sweepers, tell how to get out stains, or how to fix your vacuum. Market your business by giving value and then your readers will trust you well enough to buy from you.
12 Minute Commercial Break
The average time spent on stevenroddy.com is 12.7 minutes according to alexa.com. Why? I give value. And since I give value people are looking for more information of value on my site. Imagine how much a 12 minute commercial would cost? Yet, if you provide enough value on your site or through your social media outlets then you can advertise your product for that long or longer for free.
Remember when you are marketing your business online the words of Rob McNealy, “This years contact is next years customer.” Oh, and Rob McNealy only has about 130,000 Twitter followers and was voted “Connection Maker of the Year” in Colorado…might want to take his advice.
