Ever since I have written my book titled, “How to Turn Your Purpose into Profit,” aspiring writers often come to me and ask me how to market a book. Well, since I give my book away for the cost of an email address it is kind of an easy sell. (Just being honest.) However, there is a method to my madness. For one, I run a blog teaching individuals how to market their business or in this case how to market a book. But, I cannot help people market a business if they do not own a business, therefore I wrote a book teaching them how. Now, when my next book comes out then I will be able sell them my book because I have established myself as a credible writer and have proven myself by offering value first.
But, how do you market a book when you are writing your first book?
One of my clients whom I do Internet marketing for is marketing his book, “Never Fly Solo,” by donating all of his advanced purchase profits to non-profit Veteran organizations. So what my company is doing is leveraging our knowledge in Internet marketing to develop partnerships where non-profit Veteran organizations will sell the book, “Never Fly Solo,” and will be able to keep all of the advanced purchase profits from the books they sell.
Affiliate Marketing
Outside of partnering up with non-profit organizations another way to market a book is through affiliate marketing. Leverage websites such as ClickBank, then convert your book into a PDF format and have a downloadable version on your website. For around $40 you can put your product on ClickBank and then individuals all throughout the country who have websites and who participate in affiliate marketing will begin selling your product, while ClickBank manages the payments and then cuts you a check whenever your account hits X amount of dollars. (Side note: affiliate marketers will not sell your book if you are cheap in your payouts per book sold)
How to Market a Book to Bookstores
If you want to get your book into bookstores you can always just go about marketing the old fashion way, pick up the phone and do your pitch. Bookstores need books to sell and you have a book to sell. Its a win win. Or of course you can connect with a publisher. But in doing so expect to earn about 10% per book sold. Yeah, I know…it sucks.
Become a Public Speaker
When you speak in public you gain instant credibility as an author. Offer to speak on the topic of your book for a reduced fee, for free or negotiate with the individuals who are hiring you, to purchase X copies of your book as part of the fee. Either way you want to move your product. Your book when purchased will stay in front of your demographics face for possibly months at a time. When you market your book correctly it really has a residual benefit.
