What is the best form of advertising? Word of mouth advertising. No form of advertising converts higher than a personal recommendation from a friend, family member or even a complete stranger. This is why companies will plaster testimonials all over the place, and why they hire celebrities to do publicity stunts or to simply just say how great their product is.
Think about the things you talk about when you are around the dinner table (if people still eat around those) or when you are hanging out with your friends. You do not talk for endless hours about how you laid on the couch and watched television. You talk about random, surprising things that are out of the blue. Events that are out of the ordinary is what causes individuals like you and I to tell stories for hours upon end.
Its a Stick Up!
The great news is you can control the experience of your customer therefore you can create a word of mouth marketing buzz. If a customer walked into your store and a robber busted in behind he or she stole all of the money in the cash register and then ran out you can bet your backside that your customer would be telling that story until he or she is red in the face.
Create a Buzz
O.k. so we don’t want to stage a robbery to spread the word of mouth marketing buzz however, you can see that on any given day at any particular store, restaurant or beauty parlor you could create an experience that will get people talking. What if you bought 100 lottery tickets and gave them to your first 100 customers. That would get people talking. You think? 100 people proclaiming in the streets that you gave them a lottery ticket. And can you imagine if they won…Oh think of the publicity!
Give your customers something to talk about…then they will.
