William Shakespeare once said, “The purest treasure mortal times can afford is a spotless reputation.” Is the reputation of your company spotless? Do you maintain the appearance of professionalism but lack the follow through? Do you tell your clients or business contacts that you will complete a project on Friday only to have it done on Monday? Do you say that I will call you back at 5:00 and then get around to the phone call at 5:30?
Get a Plan
If you find yourself running around like a chicken with your head cut off, letting the demands of your customers lead you this way and that I can gaurantee you that projects are falling through the cracks. You should begin everyday with a plan…a to-do list. And that to-do list should be written out the night prior. Someone once said, “If you do not plan then you plan to fail.” Do you have a daily plan?
Follow Through…Jerk
I am BIG on organization. I dislike clutter and I do not like doing business with people who do not follow through. I have walked away from potential clients because they were ten minutes late. They did not call…so I left. Why leave money on the table? I do not like to work with companies and individuals who are not keep their word. How you do some things is how you do everything. If they show up late for appointments then they will be late on projects. And if they are late on their projects, then that will set me back on mine which will ruin my potential for a spotless reputation.
We as a society have lost a passion for keeping our word. We say one thing but deliver quite another. Marketing is not about lying it is about creating an image. An image that you can deliver. If you cannot deliver the image that you are marketing then stop marketing that image.
Make your word your bond…James Bond (random I know!
)When your reputation is spotless then you will experience word of mouth marketing and there is no better form of advertising…not even Internet marketing.
