Failure Teaches You How to Succeed

Many people want to become an overnight success however, experiencing success too quickly is not always the best thing for you. I was listening to a Miss Georgia board member discuss past state title holders of various states when he said, that if only Miss New Jersey would not have won in her first state pageant then she could of had the opportunity to be Miss America. His comment took me by surprise so I asked him what he meant and he said, “Since you can only compete in the Miss America competition once, losing would have been the best thing for her because it would have enabled her to develop more into a national competitor, not just a stateĀ  competitor. She needed a couple of more years to mature.”

Success too early can be a bad thing. When I became the youngest owner of a professional football team at the age of 23 and lead the Vipers to the playoffs in the first season for the first time in the city’s history I was on cloud nine. However, I soon learned that success too early can be a bad thing. Shortly thereafter, I lost everything, had to file bankruptcy and start all over again. But, had I a little more maturity and failures under my belt I may have been able to survive and thrive the onslaught. Remember this, “You get to enjoy your successes but only in failure can you truly learn to be a success. Therefore, embrace your past failures and realize that they are only happening to bring you closer to the success that you seek.
