Do Something

a95 Do Something

After college, I moved back home and worked with my father in his construction company and let me be the first to tell you that my dad’s purpose is Mr. Fix and at times I think my purpose is Mr. Break It. So you can imagine what my experience was like on the construction crew? When the foreman did not give me a specific job to do I would find myself just standing there waiting for the next task. So he would see me standing there and yell, “Do something!” And in a lot of ways I believe that God is telling you to “Do something!” The natural inclination that we have when we do not know how to do a task is to ignore it and quietly hope that it will solve itself. But, you and I both know that what gets ignored gets worse. If you ignore you lawn, the grass grows out of control. If you ignore your diet, your waistline likewise grows out of control.

So how does this relate to your purpose? Because we do not know how to get what we want we create a diversion with mundane activities like watching television, talking for endless hours on the cell phone, checking and rechecking emails when if we would just allow our mind to speculate freely about a strategy we would discover a plan that would put us on the road to getting what we wanted.

When you use the 7 questions to discover your purpose that I spoke about in my message titled, “7 Questions to Discovering Your Purpose,” you will be able to narrow down what you want. But, when you find your purpose, you cannot allow yourself to lose momentum.

If you know your purpose but you are not operating in it the delima is caused by one of three reasons. Either you do not know how, you are scared to take the first step, or both. Meaning, you do not know how but you are scared to learn because then you know that you are going to have to take the first step.

If you know what you want to do but do not know how to get started email me at steven@stevenroddy.com. I formed a company that helps individuals like you get started in their own business. Opportunities come through people and more often than not you have to take the first step toward the person to get the opportunity.

If you know what to do but are scared to take the first step then…Do something!

Your fear will not go away. As one man said, “The more you wait, the more you feel the weight.” Realize that whenever you are starting a new activity there will always be a level of fear because that activity is outside of your comfort zone. Your comfort zone is made up of activities that you feel comfortable doing. Any activities outside of your comfort zone will naturally be uncomfortable. But, you will never get over your discomfort until you force yourself to do those activities until they become comfortable. So here is what you do…set a date. Say “I am going to take ¬this step, on this day at this time. This will force you to face that fear and you will feel amazing as a result…even if the product comes out a little cheesy.

The most difficult person to see potential is in you. C.S. Lewis said this, “It is a serious thing to live in a society of possible gods and goddesses, to remember that the dullest and most uninteresting person you talk to may one day be a creature which, if you saw it now, you would be strongly tempted to worship, or else a horror and a corruption such as you now meet, if at all, only in a nightmare…There are no ordinary people. You have never talked to a mere mortal.” You are not a mere mortal. There is nothing ordinary about you. The power that is pinned up inside of you is great enough to shake the world and cause the history books written about this era to have your name in them. You can and will do great things if you only allow the world to be introduced to the greatness of you.
