Become Famous Through Persistence

Coach Hilliard is a basketball coach at Harvard Westlake, in Hollywood, California whom has just been named, “Coach of the Decade.” What I respect about Coach Hilliard more than his staggering winning record is what he represents in the life that he lives.

So you might be asking yourself why we would interview a basketball coach to teach you how to become famous. Well, first off though he would never admit it but Coach Hilliard is a bit of celebrity just not the kind that we are used to seeing on the big screen or on the stage. Secondly, he has tapped into one of the biggest principles of success for making you famous…the persistence principle.

Hilliard has coached at the same school for 20 years and when asked about his more than 500 wins he pretty much responded, “If you coach as long as I do you are bound to accumulate a lot of wins.”

Perseverance Ticket

Now, that is a modest response but in truth you may not win 500+ games like Coach Hilliard but you will win a lot of games if you coached as long as he has at one school. When it comes to acting, singing or modeling if you just stay in the game long enough to win, you will win. You have no other choice.

That is kind of the story of life isn’t? Read up on any celebrity that you admire and you will notice that they had to pay their dues before God granted them the success that they sought. And it seems like the greater the price that they had to pay before they experienced success, the bigger the reward of success that they experienced after their perseverance was tested.

This is where I am going to pick up on the interview. This interview with Coach Hilliard was conducted by Florentina Lile of CiaoFlorentina.com an organic celebrity chef living in Hollywood, California.

Coach Hilliard Interview

Florentina: What is the most important life principal that coaching basketball has taught you?

Coach: Hmmm, the most important….  when you have a passion for something that you’re doing then everyday of work feels more like play. When you are doing something that feels low stress and high reward than you’re life is that much richer. Coaching has been that for me.

Florentina:  You have had such a long and accomplished record at Harvard Westlake; to what do you attribute the level of success that you have experienced?

Coach: I had great kids to coach.

Florentina: Being responsible for coaching 2 players that went onto play in the NBA what was the difference in their person than the other players whom stopped at the collegial level?

Coach: The difference between them and the other players was the fact that they were 7 feet tall in high school, and twins, which made them extremely attractive to the NBA franchise. But honestly they were two of the hardest working and finest young men that I’ve coached. They had maturity about them at an early age and they knew exactly what they wanted to do and how they wanted to do it.

Florentina: Having the wisdom that you do today what advice would you offer someone just starting his or her career journey?

Coach: The best advice is to be true to yourself and never take yourself and what you’re doing too seriously.

Florentina: What do you feel is your greatest accomplishment thus far?

Coach: My greatest accomplishment would be having the good fortune & the opportunity to spend my life helping and serving young people to recognize & achieve their dreams.

Florentina: On a more personal note, how does it feel like living in a house full of women?

Coach: It has sped up my lifetime quest for humility*

And I personally can tell you that being raised in a household of 5 sisters and no brothers that Coach Hilliard is right about living with women will speed up the humility process.
