I have learned the keys to effectively managing through three angles: Being a manager, being managed, and paying a manager. The most productive and highest paid overseers do the following:
- Responsible – When the organization wins the people did it, when the organization is average we did it, and when the organization fails I did it.
- Respectful – They lead out of earned respect not entitlement.
- Competence – They know the key aspects of their job and are continually learning to gain more of an edge.
- Fairness – In regards to consequences of action everyone is judged by the same standards for both promotion and demotion.
- Enthusiasm – Nothing great was ever accomplished without excitement.
