5 Creative Ways to Use Twitter Lists

A couple of weeks ago I noticed an interesting little notice on the top of my Twitter account…Twitter Lists? Anyways, I was busy and I didn’t want to be bothered with something new so I ignored the notice. Then a couple of weeks later I realized that I kept getting added various lists and so I thought to myself…

“Self” and myself said, “Hmmm?” I need to look into these Twitter Lists.

Turns out that Twitter Lists are a great way to keep track of individuals whom you are following on Twitter. At the writing of this article I am following 13+ thousand people so keeping track of everyone is, well difficult. However, Twitter Lists helps to simplify this process. But, as with every new tool introduced to social media and to your business the biggest question is how to use that tool for your benefit.

So here is the skinny on how to use Twitter Lists to your advantage:

First assign which of your Twitter Lists you want private and public. Public Twitter Lists are visible to all of your followers. Private Twitter Lists are only visible to well, you. (Thank you Captain Obvious) Make visible only the lists that are going to be beneficial to your followers.

Now that that is out of the way here are some examples of what lists on Twitter that might be beneficial to your business.

  • Offline Twitter Lists Twitter is a great way to get a quick recap of what is going on in the lives of the individuals whom you meet at networking events and business meetings. By creating a Twitter List of your offline contacts you can quickly scan what has been going on in their business and professional life in just a few minutes.
  • Creative Twitter Lists No one person is one dimensional. We like music, movies, hobbies, food etc. Create Twitter Lists that showcase some of your personal desires. This way individuals can quickly identify if they share similar interest as you. And this will help you connect your followers with each other.
  • Happy Client Twitter Lists Do you have happy customers? Showcase them in a special list. This might not be applicable in every business…especially because your competitors could easily attempt to steal your clients. But, if they are happy there is no need to worry, right? This will also give individuals who are interested in your services the opportunity to ask reviews from your satisfied clients.
  • Members Lists – Put all of your members in a list so that they can connect online to connect offline. This can work great for churches, gyms, local chambers, and various other membership services and communities.
  • Wish Lists – Make a list following the lists of individuals whom you would like to meet. This will help you stay in tune with the desires, philosophies and aspirations of your future contacts.
