In dating terms Twitter is the first date and FaceBook is the first kiss. For the most part you can date a lot of girls as long as you only go on a first date with them. The moment you go on a second date you start to become…well, taken. But, after the first kiss…forget about it. Your backside is off the market.
Twitter will allow you to follow as many individuals whom are willing. FaceBook on the other hand will only allow you to kiss a select few…5,000 to be exact. FaceBook is great for getting to know your followers more intimately and in my experience converts so much better.
Here are some 2009 FaceBook Statistics that will prove the enormity of the power of FaceBook courtesy of Kodak:
- More than 250 million active users
- More than 120 million users long on to Facebook at least once each day
- More than two-thirds of Facebook users are outside of college
- The fastest growing demographic is those 35 years old and older
- About 70% of the 250 million Facebook users are outside the United States

- The 35-54 year old demo is growing fastest, with a 276.4% growth rate in over the approximate 6 months since we last produced this report
- The 55+ demo is not far behind with a 194.3% growth rate
- The 25-34 year population on Facebook is doubling every 6 months
- For those interested in advertising alcohol on Facebook, there are 27,912,480 users 21+, representing 66.3% of all users
- Miami is the fastest growing metropolitan area (88.5%) and Atlanta (6.4%) is the slowest
- There are more females (55.7%) than males (42.2%) on Facebook – 2.2% are of unknown gender.
- The largest demographic concentration remains the college crowd of 18-24 year olds (40.8%) which is down from (53.8%) six months ago.
